Bible Study 2016-01-13

Tonight we discussed Isiah 42:1-4, 6-7 and Luke 3:15-16, 21-22, taken from the Lectionary for the Feast of The Baptism of the Lord (ABC), which was celebrated last Sunday.
In the Gospel reading we hear how Jesus came to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. We reflected on the importance of this event in the beginning of Jesus Ministry, and the importance of our own Baptism.

Tonight, we discussed Isaiah 60:1-6 and Matthew 2:1-12, taken from the lectionary for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord (ABC), which was celebrated last Sunday.  Please refer to the posted Bible Study Agenda for a glimpse at the readings and their historical backgrounds and contexts.  Through the mystery of the incarnation, God revealed Himself as a light to all nations in the Baby Jesus.  May we be touched by an encounter with the Living God this Christmas Season and lead lives transformed by love and peace throughout the year 2016!  Hope to see you next week at Bible Study!

January 3 - Epiphany

Another Way

Today's Readings

"Raise your eyes and look about!" The prophet Isaiah proclaims the joy, the light, the reminder that we encounter the hope in the darkness. The world today may seem overrun with darkness, horrible inhumanity, and hopelessness. Yet, the light shines through. We are called to encounter that light, to encounter Christ. We are called to embrace Christ and embody his love and light in the world.

The magi came from their homes, left their rather comfortable lives in the courts of the wealthy eastern provinces. They journeyed in what must have been uncomfortable, if not dangerous situations. They got lost and sought guidance. They are some of the first models we have of what it means to be a people of faith. We have to leave our proverbial comfort zones. We have to reach out to others. We may even be called to take journeys that take us far from what we expected of our lives.

All of this is due to encountering Christ. When we encounter our God, we are forever changed. We are asked to choose another way. We are asked to choose another way to live our lives, to love our neighbors, and to follow that Light.

May you encounter that light of Christ. May you choose to live another way. May you choose to follow Christ more nearly.

Remain

Today's Readings

In the first reading, John talks about the importance of having you to remain in God as He remains in you; meanwhile, in the gospel, the scripture talks about preparing the way for the Lord. As the New Year has come upon us, what can we do to challenge ourselves daily, so that we remain in His teachings at all time. Striving to be a better Christian is a constant challenge; however God is good and His promise of eternal life is true. What can we do to challenge ourselves to become a better Christian in our daily lives, so that we are to remain in Him, as He remains in us?

Today's Readings

As we embark on the New Year we honor our mother, Mary, on this Solemnity. With her mantle wide to cradle us and a heart that holds us dear our plea resounds- Hail Holy Queen, Our Light, Our Sweetness and Our Hope – as all things begin new and our hearts are filled with the promise of the New Year! We look to you Mary, in anticipation and in longing for your intercession, our Mother and our Patroness. 

May Mary’s love be the gentle guide of a mother’s hand drawing us closer to her Son to know and follow His will for our lives with Peace at Heart, Prosperity in Love and Hope of Life Eternal. 

Many blessings to you and yours in the New Year as we rejoice in the Love of our heavenly Mother!
