Urban Impressions of the Stations of the Cross

Reflections of God: An Art Exhibition

Our first art exhibit sponsored by the Faith Formation Commission was a success! Despite the World Series, we had nearly 200 people attend. With artists ranging in ages, mediums, and experience it was a fascinating intersection of art and faith.

The Faith Formation Commission plans to host another art exhibit in the fall of 2017, likely in October. Details on theme and submissions will be available this summer.

If you have any questions in the interim, please contact Jennifer Delvaux, Director of Faith Formation at Holy Name Cathedral.

Reflections of God: Artistic Impressions of the Acts of Mercy

October 22nd, 2016
6:30-8:30 pm
Parish Center Cafeteria

In the spirit of Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy, consider sharing your talents and visual interpretations of mercy with fellow parishioners!

All ages and skill levels are encouraged to submit artwork.

Even if you are not submitting art, mark your calendars now for what will be a powerful, first-of-its kind evening of sharing and exploring artistic representations of mercy in our lives. The exhibition will be curated by our own artist parishioner, Jill McLean.

Accepted mediums: Painting, drawing, printmaking, small sculpture and photography.

“It is by God’s mercy we are saved. May we never tire of spreading this joyful message to the world.” – Pope Francis

Corporal Works of Mercy: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit prisoners, bury the dead, give alms to the poor.

Spiritual Works of Mercy: counseling the doubtful, instructing the ignorant, admonishing the sinner. comforting the sorrowful, forgiving injuries, bearing wrongs patiently, praying for the living and the dead.

For additional sources of inspiration, you may want to browse through the posts for Season of Mercy which highlight each work of mercy, one per week over the course of the past summer.

On September 1, Pope Francis added "Care for our common home" to the list of the works of mercy. Pope Francis considers this both a spiritual and corporal work.
